Becca MacPhee - 'I like to be experimental and quite abstract with my work and I always try to find beauty in the subject I have in front of me'

Becca is a studio based still life commercial photographer who uses in camera effects and especially enjoys photographing liquids and glass.

BMBM

Becca's main influence comes from photographer Richard Maxted, who taught her that even a cocktail stick or rubber band can be the most interesting subject to work with! Other influences come from Irving Penn, Chema Madoz, Johnathan Knowles, Mike Diver and Pedro Aguilar, and the Absolut Vodka campaigns.

BM

The last project she completed required her to break down an existing brief. She chose an international Grolsch campaign which was worked by a London agency The Bank in October 2009. The Bank has used her final images on their own website http://www.thebank.co.uk, and will shortly be used on the Grolsh website also.

Her ideas came from using the Grolsch logo (‘the mark’) in ways that show the harnessed character/power of the brand.

Her latest projects include a D&AD brief for the Body Shop. The idea is to show the ethos of active self esteem through using mannequins instead of models and to show the history of the brand and its beliefs in my ideas. Another project involves designing posters for Birmingham City Uni to advertise the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design its courses. This also involves a collaboration with Art Director Ros Sinclair and students from other courses. The ideas are based around 'skilled hands' and what you might find in the creative hands of a person who does each course.
